Guided Response Blog
This week I’m going to blog about the circumstances the surrounds African Americans in the inner city who receive welfare. Everyone has a story to tell coming from what I like to call the hood. Here’s how my story and how it relates with the struggles of Precious and her mother. Well growing up in the hood was difficult facing hardships of once a month income coming from the government, as well as provided food stamps, and on good months we get government cheese. How this relates to the book is how Precious and her mother are in poverty now, they wait on a once a month check from the government as well. The problem with this is that some people become content with receiving welfare and live life ghetto fabulous. Which in the books case it is Precious mother who lives a ghetto fabulous life; to just sit around all day with the TV to entertain her. For most people who fall under this category who are just lazy at all right think it’s acceptable to receive handouts from the government and make that life I think is totally ridiculous. One example on repeated trends comes from the book where Precious mother keep urging Precious to go to welfare herself to sign up for a check. Even though this book it’s based out of the 1980’s there are still cases that are current today. I believe if we as the African American culture have to recognize and change for the better of our future with the next couple of generations.
